To me poverty is something that a lot of people fear to be in. Its when you barely have any money in your name, and live on the streets or live in slums. Anyone can suffer from poverty, many united states citizens are cursed with this horrible position. Many 3rd world country citizens are also affected. People can do many things to help prevent this. You can start an organization to save money, start food drives, give to charity, or even give somebody a couple of bucks when they look like they can use it.
My 2nd period class brainstormed on Poverty. Here si a list of what they came up with:
poor
hungry, no food
homeless
no clothes
people
sadness
NY City
United States Hurricane Katrina
3rd world countries
give to charities
canned food drives
Salvation Army
winter clothes donations
We asked if one person could make a difference, and their answer was yes!
The seventh grade class (Mr Busch) would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention.
What is poverty...
Powerlessness, being poor, lack of food, clothing, shelter
What can we do...
Set up a fund, write letters to the government, donate money, food drive, clothing drive
How can the world help...
I think poverty is people who are poor and dont have jobs and who didnt go to school to get a good education and now they are poor and also people can be poor because they were rich and then got poor people can raise money or donate some food to help the poor if they want. sean
poverty is people who don't have enough money to support themselves. there is poverty in every country.we could help this by donating food, clothes and money to people in need.

poverty is a very sad and heart breaking thing to let happen to a person or even happen to you like many people around the age of 18 to 75 are in poverty which means that they have no money no food and may not even have a place to live. Some 3rd world counrty citizens are in poverty. There are some people where Hurricane Katrina hit thats still are liveing in poverty. one person can make a difference to anthonr one person!
poverty is poor people who can't make it in the soceity ex homeless without jobs a good example is New Orleans with the hurricanes flooding homes recking buildings people commiting suicide bad economy hardly any money to eat food living on pay check to pay check and people on welfare

Poverty by definition can mean a lack or relative lack of money or material possessions; poorness. Is a mere lack of money, or lack of material possessions poverty? Is it a national crisis in the USA? I think not by 3rd world standards. Another definition defines poverty as debility due to malnutrition. I do not recall the last time I saw someone suffering with malutrition in my community. Nor do I recall reading an obituary with the cause of death identified as malnutrition in our great nation. Does poverty exist ...yes, but its extent varies to personal perceptions influenced by your needs and wants. In the USA you can be considered "in poverty" yet still have a place to live with 4 walls and a roof, food to eat every day, running water, heat, cable TV, and a cell phone. To the contrary a house with 4 walls and a roof, running water, and some food to eat every day are wealthy standards in a 3rd world country. While poverty in the sense of debility exists in the world today, I am confident to say that is does not exist in the USA..yet. We American are compasionate people and provide for others less fortunate. Our children are vacinated, fed, sheltered, clothed, educated and medically treated if necessary. AS a citizen of the USA, I am privleged in many ways. I have been given a gift of opportunity by my government; however, it is my responsibility to recognize the gifts and share with others less fortunate in the world.
I think a few solutions to poverty are, stop giving tax breaks to the wealthiest companies in America, stop sending jobs overseas, and give tax breaks to people who actually need them.
